I love to read. In fact, give me a good book over a movie pretty much any time these days. I wouldn’t have always thought or felt that way, because I really do enjoy movies. But a good author, who uses words in clever ways, to describe worlds and situations you truly can imagine as you read, is something special.

Sometimes, words just don’t do justice to the way a person feels about his level of gratitude and gratefulness. I always try to be polite, to say please and thank you. But from time to time, it seems like such a shallow thing, like you just want to dig deeper and say more, because the people or the situation calls for “more words.”

My sons, though all adults now, are still fun to watch grow up. I have 5 sons for those who didn’t know. And over the summer months I’ve gotten to spend a small bit of time with each of them. With the boys scattered all over the USA, their mom and I find it challenging to get time with them regularly. So, when we do see them, we value that time immensely. It’s just never enough.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more absurd… in comes Massachusetts and says, “Hold my beer.”
As if to prove to the world they weren’t quite restrictive enough in their approach to gun laws, Massachusetts recently passed some of the most intrusive and likely unconstitutional, anti-gun laws in the country. And if you believe their legislators (hint - you should), they’re proud of the fact that they did it and know full well they’ll get sued. If only we could all be so cavalier with the use of taxpayer funds to fight lawsuits for things we don’t happen to like or understand.

I was 11 years old the last time someone took a shot at a President. Fortunately, that attempt on the life of Ronald Reagan was unsuccessful. Some of you reading this maybe weren’t even born yet. The announcement by Dan Rather of CBS was shocking. Back in those days you still huddled around the radio or TV and couldn’t find immediate pictures and video information from the internet like we can today. News like that was breathtaking, surreal and certainly very unusual.

One of the most frequent questions I get asked by members and non-members alike is, “How are things going in the firearms industry?” I always find it to be a great question and depending on who is asking, the reason for the ask and what they hope to hear can be quite different.

How many of you grew up with parents who told you if you’re going to “talk the talk, you’ve got to walk the walk”?
What they meant of course is that you can’t just say you’re going to do something, you’ve actually got to do it, or the talk is meaningless. Well, on one particular issue, it’s time for me to start walking a little more often. So these next few paragraphs are going to be just that… talking and walking.
This is not a column I wanted to write. Not because the issue isn’t important, but because it’s a challenging one. It’s hard to talk about mental health and its impacts on our daily lives. It’s even more of a challenge when you throw into the mix the notion of guns and suicide.

President's Message: The Name on the Front of the Jersey or the Back?
With the annual “March Madness” of the NCAA Men’s and Women’s basketball tournaments about to get underway, I’m sure you are all furiously researching the odds of who will win and filling out your brackets for the home, office or friend pool. It’s become probably one of the most popular and collective sports activities next to watching the Super Bowl.

President's Message: Accountability, Responsibility, Right and Wrong
It’s been an absolutely remarkable and chaotic week. And as I write this, it’s only Wednesday.
From a very public shooting in Kansas City, where over 20 people were injured and one person died, to the closing arguments in New York for the trial focusing on the gross mismanagement and fraud at the National Rifle Association, this has been a very busy week.
